CANNABIS CULTIVATION

I grow my own cannabis because I cannot bear the idea of leaving my wellness up to anyone else.  It is my right to have access to the best medicine possible.  I have grown for a long time (18 years) and over that time have developed a personal connection with cannabis unlike anything else.  I am a much better hashmaker for the plain fact that I can control what type of resin I collect. As a hashmaker, my focus does not necessarily dovetail with the needs of the commercial grower whose focus is on marketability and bag appeal.  Whereas customers like the look of dense and stacked buds, I prefer slightly airy buds with resin heads readily available for collection.  Growing my own cannabis, I am not subject to the whims of the market, relegating me to washing the “popular” strains.  Rather I have the freedom to grow what suits me and my palette and will give best results.

I used to be an indoor grower, but transitioned to outdoor growing in 2015.  I had two large rooftop grows in 2016 and 2017 before I was forced to relinquish the space.  I have since returned to indoor growing; dedicating the same amount of time to a much smaller garden, thereby producing even more phenomenal buds. I have to admit I miss growing in the sun, though.  The best hash I have consistently made has been from my own garden.  I have made plenty melty and terpy hashish.  Nothing has wowed me time after time like the crosses I have produced on my own.  Single Source (grow your own, make your own) is the way…

Previous outdoor setup

When I moved to California, I realized I had a really unique opportunity to take full advantage of Oakland’s Measure Z which stipulated that medical cannabis card holders were allowed to grow 20 plants per person outdoors and 72 plants per person indoors.  I had access to a completely unobstructed roof and from the 2015 through the  2017 grow season, I nursed dozens of plants from mere seeds and optimistic clones to huge shrubs and “trees” approaching seven feet. The Panama Red crosses were gigantic.  Here are a few videos of  my cannabis growing experience.

Current indoor grow setup

I am running a 8 tube T5 in my vegetative space.  I have been vegging cannabis with T5s for a long time and I like how my plants develop under them.  For late stage vegging and flowering, I move the plants into my 5 x 9 tent which features two CompLED Hash Cropter Full Spectrum LEDs.  These German babies are precise!  Fully tunable, I can recreate any portion of the spectrum as I desire with six modifiable time rages for complete customization.  I love being able to adjust my light in my second bedroom while I hang out in the living room.  Convenience, right?

Plants I am growing right now

Not one to be too into the hyped up strains (there are THOUSANDS of strains, but hear IG growers tell it, there are 10), I am growing a variety of cannabis plants.  In my flowering tent under the LEDs I am growing three Banana Split OG crosses (unknown father), two Forbidden Fruit crosses (unknown father), Spicy Bitch (seed) from Exotic Seeds, Pink Runtz (clone) bought as clone from HellaFire, and a Black Jack (clone) bought from Oakland Organics.
